L'installazione si trova in Valle Po alle pendici del Monviso. La stazione è situata sulla sinistra idrografica del fiume Po ed ha un esposizione verso sud, in quanto si trova sul versante sud di una montagna (Punta Ostanetta). La Valle Po presenta un clima tipico alpino e grazie al suo asse E-W, rimane spesso in ombra pluviometrica con i venti da sud mentre è favorita per i venti da E. La Valle numerose volte si ritrova sotto l'effetto del favonio.
